Neil and I are heading out on an adventure this weekend with our backpacks, a chart, and a prayer. It’s the first real adventure into the deep wilderness, where there is (hopefully) no civilization, nor a corner store to save us. We’ve been slowly picking up lighter gear to be able to set off on such adventures and this weekend is the first test of that transformation. Our backpacks are loaded with our food, clothes and shelter for the weekend, each weighing 27 lbs (before fuel). I suspect they will reach closer to 30 lbs by the time we leave.
The adventure begins at pedals & paddles from where we will rent a double kayak for the weekend. We’ll travel up the Sechelt Inlet, as the tide withdraws towards our camping destination. We’ll drop a couple of crab traps just before we land. Indeed, camping on the ocean has its perks with food available to those who seek it. We’re not relying on our crabbing and oystering abilities as our primary source of nourishment, but it would certainly bring the adventure to a whole nutha level if we are successful. No worries about running out of bait since we can dig the sandy beaches for butter/manilla clams to feed to the crabs that will feed us. Ahhh, the joys of being near the top of the food chain. Lets just hope that we’re not nourishment for the bears or cougars.
Once we’ve landed, we’ll set up camp and relax for the rest of the weekend, working only to check our crab traps, or to explore the inlet. I’m really looking forward to just readin’ and chillin’ by the water. The weather looks perfectly clear all weekend, so I think we’re in for some fun in the sun.

Have a great weekend both of you! As luck would have it Jason and I are both getting over colds so will be taking it easy this weekend.
Try not to get lost. But if you do make sure neil packs his iPhone the GPS may come in handy.

Thanks Scott! Summer colds suck. Well, colds suck anytime, but particularly in the summer. I hope you’re both feeling better soon.
We have two maps of the inlet, along with a compass and indeed, Neil’s iPhone for backup. We won’t get lost, unless we intend to. Enjoy your weekend, of relaxing and recovering.
