Scooter Handle Bar Heads

April 28th, 2008 10:11 pm · No Comments

A few weeks ago, I passed under the Granville Street bridge on my way to the office.  The large concrete structures supporting the bridge were adorned with dudes that had scooter handle bars for a head.  There were four posters in total, one on each side of the road leading onto Granville Island and two in the opposing direction.  It gave me a little laugh, admiring the work of the street artist.  Over the next couple of weeks, the dudes were popping up on buildings and structures along other routes, including one in Gastown and another along Main Street.  Interesting.  I had suspicions that it was the same person that has been posting around Gastown for a while now, but uncertain considering I saw the first posting on Granville Street - the artistic centre of Vancouver.  However, I’ve now discovered their significance and their creators.  You might have noticed them pop up in your city as they have been posted in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.  The creator, a Toronto-based company Faux Reel, teamed with Dentsu Canada to create a buzz for Vespa’s new Vespa S.  Lame.  Apparently, corporate paid defacing is not vandalism.
